7a. Facebook

This website uses social plugins from the social network Facebook, which is operated by Facebook, Inc., 1601 S. California Ave, Palo Alto, CA 94304, USA (“Facebook”). The plugins are marked with a Facebook logo or the supplement “social plugin from Facebook” or “Facbook social plugin”. You can find an overview of the Facebook plugins and what they look like here developers.facebook.com/docs/plugins

If you access a page of our website that has such a plugin, your browser establishes a direct connection with Facebook’s servers. The contents of the plugin are transmitted directly to your browser from Google and integrated into the website by them.

By integrating the plugins, Facebook receives the information that your browser has accessed the corresponding page on our website even if you don’t have a Facebook  account or aren’t currently logged into Facebook. This information (including your IP address) is transmitted by your browser directly to a Facebook server in the USA and saved there.

If you are logged in to Facebook, Facebook can directly associate the visit to our website with your Facebook account. If you interact with the plugins by, for instance, pushing a “Like” button or entering a comment, the corresponding information will be transmitted directly by your browser to a Facebook server and stored there. The information is also published on Facebook and displayed to your Facebook friends.

Facebook can use this information for advertising purposes, market research and the needs-based design of the Facebook pages. To this end, Facebook creates usage, interest and relationship profiles, e.g. to analyse your use of our website with respect to the advertisements you are shown on Facebook, inform other Facebook users of your activities on our website and provide additional services related to the use of Facebook.

If you don’t want Facebook to directly associate data collected via our website with your Facebook account, you have to log out of Facebook before visiting our website.

The purpose and scope of the data collection and the further processing and use of the data by Facebook and your rights and settings options in this regard for protecting your privacy can be found in Facebook’s data protection information from Facebook: www.facebook.com/policy.php.

Google Analytics uses so-called “cookies,” text files that are placed on your computer and permit an analysis of how you use the website. The information generated by the cookie about your use of this website (including your IP address) is transmitted to a Google server in the USA and stored there. Google will use this information to analyse your use of the website, compile reports on website activity for website operators and provide other services relating to website activity and internet usage. Google may also transfer this information to third parties insofar as required to do so by law or to the extent that such third parties process these data on Google’s behalf. Google will not attribute your IP address to any other data held by Google under any circumstances. You may prevent the installation of the cookies by selecting the appropriate settings in your browser; however, please note that if you do so, you may not be able to use all the functions of this website in their full scope. By using this website, you consent to the processing of your data collected by Google in the manner described above and for the purposes stated there.

8. reCAPTCHA

We use the “reCAPTCHA” service of Google Inc., 1600 Amphitheatre Parkway, Mountain View, CA 94043, USA, (hereinafter: “Google”) to protect the entry forms on our site. The use of this service enables us to determine whether the information entered in the form is of human origin or is the result of the misuse of automated mechanical processing. To the best of our knowledge, the referrer URL, the IP address, the behaviour of website visitors, information about the operating system, browser and length of visit, cookies, display instructions and scripts, the user’s input behaviour and mouse movements in the “reCAPTCHA” checkbox area are transmitted to “Google.” Google uses the information obtained in this way (among other purposes) to digitalise books and other printed products and to optimise services such as Google Street View and Google Maps (e.g. house number and street name recognition). The IP address provided as part of “reCAPTCHA” is not associated with any other data held by Google unless you are logged in to your Google account at the time you use the “reCAPTCHA” plug-in. If you wish to prevent “Google” from transmitting and storing data about you and your behaviour on our website, you must log out of “Google” before visiting our site or using the reCAPTCHA plug-in. However, MailChimp does not use the data of our newsletter recipients to write to them itself and does not pass these data on to third parties.

MailChimp is certified under the US-EU data protection agreement “Privacy Shield,” which means it has covenanted to comply with EU data protection regulations. In addition, we have concluded a “data processing agreement” with MailChimp. This is an agreement in which MailChimp covenants to protect the data of our users, to process the data on our behalf in accordance with its data protection regulations and, in particular, not to pass them on to third parties.
